a fresh start to scrapooking / pocket pages and layout.

HELLO dearies!  Happy holiday season!  Holy heck, I can't believe it's December.  My blog has been a little lonely lately, but there's been lots going on behind the scenes.  There's so much I want to share and I'm hoping to squeeze it all in in December.  For now, here's one topic that's been on my mind to blog for a while...

--------------------

This year was a rollercoaster in terms of scrapbooking for me.  I started the year with a major lack of motivation that carried over from 2014.  There were moments where I thought I was losing complete interest in scrapbooking altogether.  My creating was at an all time low and I hated almost everything I made.  I really needed a fresh start.

Cue Simple Scrapper, and more specifically, the Start Fresh class.  I learned about this class through a friend on Instagram, and looked into it a bit further before finally purchasing it in May.  It really was exactly what I needed.  The approach to the Start Fresh class was just that.  Starting fresh, at the beginning.  The beginning of WHY you enjoy scrapbooking and memory keeping and what made you fall in love with it in the first place.  It was all about simplifying your approach so you can get back to more fun and meaningful scrapbooking.  This was definitely what I needed.

This was the first project I created after taking the Start Fresh class.  This was the first project I had LOVED LOVED SO MUCH in a while.  The page includes three of the questions asked during the Start Fresh class: 1) How long have you been scrapbooking for?  2) What have you accomplished with this hobby?  3) What does scrapbooking mean to you?  I also included a quote that you had to choose as part of the class: There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you." -Maya Angelou

Really, taking this class made me realize that my reasons for scrapbooking had changed.  While I started this hobby wanting to be crafty and make pretty things, that was no longer as important to me as telling stories of my life.  I was transitioning from a scrapbooker to more of a memory keeper, without even realizing it.

More recently, I participated in the Refresh class, a shorter version of Start Fresh (right now, this class is only available to members.  I was lucky enough to win a 3-month subscription to Simple Scrapper last month).  I completed this layout (above) using a Simple Scrapper sketch and a challenge from the Refresh class.  I am soooo in love with this layout.  Not only have I NEVER created an 8 1/2 x 11 page before, I realized I can, in fact, create a layout in half an hour or less.  WOWZERS!

Unfortunately, the Start Fresh class is no longer available, and the Refresh class has not been released to non-members yet.  But I encourage you to check out Simple Scrapper and maybe even the new 2016 Planner that's available.  I'll be talking about this subject so much more in the future.  It is something I am very passionate about right now.  Telling stories, meaningful memory-keeping that isn't stressful or super time-consuming. Just documenting life's big and small moments.  I hope I inspire you to do the same.

xoxo

PS: The opinions in this post are 100% my own.  I was not compensated in any way for writing this, and am not a member of the Simple Scrapper Design Team.  This is just me, sharing something amazing that has helped me, and could help you too!
