mini album blog hop!

HELLO!!! Welcome to the {first} Mini Album Blog Hop!  I've been dreaming of having a blog hop dedicated to just mini albums for a while now.  I love mini albums!!  You can literally have mini albums about ANYTHING: adventures, relationships, scrapbooking YOU, long stories, short stories, never-ending stories, etc....I'm super excited about the awesome group of ladies we have sharing mini albums!  The full hop list is at the end of this post, in case you get lost along the way.  (Extra special shout-out to Beth for creating our awesome graphic above).  Let's get this party started!

I decided to attempt the finishing of my Summer 2013 mini album.  I created this album in 2013 and then it collected dust for a bit.  It's a mini that was tough for me to work on because my hubby got injured very early into the summer and was out of work for 10 1/2 weeks (more on that another day).  It was a tough situation, but I'm happy to report that I really am enjoying working on it!

This mini book is simply a photo album from Michaels, measuring 4 3/4 by 6 1/2, with 18 4x6 pages, that I purchased on Black Friday.  I didn't like the cover pattern, so I covered it up with paper and Modge Podge.

My goal for this album was to document the big AND small stories from Summer 2013, including my hubby's injury, without having his injury be a cloud raining over the entire album.  So far, I think I'm doing a pretty damn good job achieving this!  The 4x6 pages are PERFECT for little mini album pages.  Above are the stories of when I got to drive hubby's big truck while he was injured, a scrapbook crop my sister & I attended with some friends, bad days and film cameras.

I realized while putting this album together that lots of stuff happened in Summer 2013.  Hubby and I had a nice staycation right in the middle of summer, and went to a local park and walked around all day.  They have a free zoo that's home to rescued animals (which of course we LOVED since we are big animal people!) and a beautiful, huge park and lake that we hung around all day.  (That's a DREAM for me this year since the mosquitos are soooo bad with all the rain we've been having.)

I used mainly Dear Lizzy Neopolitan (yes, I know, super old!) and Freckled Fawn embellishments in this album.  All of the paper is from Dear Lizzy Neopolitan.  (I was pretty obsessed with it in 2013 when I set this up).  Since I didn't want the album too fat, I used stitching, misting, and enamel dots as my texture.  I'm really loving simple embellishing and drawing borders lately.

One of the main things I did in this album that I LOVE is add extra pages.  I did this by cutting one strip of paper 1 inch x 3 inches, scoring it in half, and using super-strong adhesive to adhere it to the book (to the outside of the page protectors).  Then I just added a journaling card to the other side with the extra-strong adhesive.  Now, it's just like extra flippable pages!  I also did some hidden journaling (middle photo) for stories that were a bit longer.  LOVE INTERACTIVE ALBUMS!
