Earlier this week, I participated in Ali Edwards' Day in the Life challenge. This is the first time I've played along, but I've seen most of Ali's posts sharing her Day in the Life and I absolutely love them. Thanks to Project Life, I've come to have a new respect for everyday moments and they are easily my favorite moments to document now.
This day that I documented was Tuesday, May 12th. It turned out to be a spectacular day (new fav word!) and not just because I tried to document it that way! Here is a look at a day in my life, Tuesday May 12th.
5:06 a.m. - Good morning! I sleep that with that giant minion (gifted by my amazing hubs) each night. Apparently, I'm a very serious sleeper!
5:12 a.m. - Thanks to my amazing hubby, I have coffee waiting for me nearly every. single. morning! (And say hello to our new coffee pot, my Mother's Day gift!)
5:41 a.m. - My morning routine. It's a long process! Shower, hair, make-up, clothes, doggie out, etc....
5:48 a.m. - Here, there, and everywhere. Most mornings, we pass by each other getting all kinds of things done. Drinking apple cider vinegar has been added to my morning route (for digestion). Hubby was cleaning the doggie bowl.
6:12 a.m. - Finishing touches on the hairdo. I probably went a little overboard on the morning photos, but that's literally most of our day together.
6:33 a.m. - Doggie goes into the truck to take a trip to the groomer/vet. She usually doesn't care for Alex picking her up, but it's the only way we can get her to the vet. She's getting better each time we take her.
6:36 a.m. - Car ride! A sweet, intimate moment between my hubby and his baby girl. The above photo is pretty much how she views the world when she's on a car ride (everything in fast, exciting blurs).
7:55 a.m. - On my way to work. My drive can be anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour one way. The digital board in the photo above is always a preview as to what's to come. I spend way too much time in the car and try to switch it up between music and audio books. Today's play was Stroke 9 (yeah throwback!)
8:54 a.m. - Work, here we go! Sometimes I take selfies in the bathroom at work, JUST FOR FUN! (I love how GIANT the mirror is!)
9:05 a.m. - And so it begins! Usually I'm exhausted by this point, LOL. This morning, most of my attorneys were out of the office, so I try to "catch up" on things that I might not get done otherwise.
12:21 p.m. - I LIVE for 9 to 5 lunches! Usually once a week, I go to Einstein bagels for lunch with my friend Sharon. Pretzel bagel with low-fat plain cream cheese for me, asiago with sun-dried tomato for her.
4:42 p.m. - Seeing what else I can squeeze in before I leave. At work, I have my "serious face" on! For confidentiality purposes, I kept my photos at work to a minimum. The afternoon is when I get the core of my work done: meeting with my attorneys, following up on things, making phone calls, etc. Today was no different in that department!
6:15 p.m. - On my way home! Yah!!! I drive into the sun on my way to work and into the sun on my way home. On days like today, when it's beautiful, it's such a nice, enjoyable drive.
6:37 p.m. - HOME! Seeing that front door makes me so giddy! I stopped at our local liquor store (per hubby's request), to pick up some night time drinks for us.
6:39 p.m. - I get the best greeting when I come home! It's so nice to feel loved by something so much! She's always excited when I walk in the door. (And extra special thanks to my hubby for capturing this sweet moment. I love it so much!)
6:42 p.m. Dinner with mi amor at the dining room table. He made super yummy fajitas! I cherish so much when we get to sit down and have dinner together, because it's pretty rare.
7:24 p.m. - Finally time to chill out. I tried to get a nice photo of me and Alex, but this is the best we get. At least it shows us in our true forms: tired from our day and so ready to enjoy each other's company.
7:56 p.m. - Bunny run time. Doggie goes in the bedroom and Maria (pictured above) and Murphy get to stretch their legs. Maria loves the dog bed, for some silly reason!
8:54 p.m. - Bed time! Sometimes, like today, Cocoa passes out before we do! I love her little naked body and the way she sprawls out on her favorite blanket (gifted by Alex's parents. Of course it had to be camo!)
Thoughts on Day in the Life
So there was my Tuesday Day in the Life! I definitely enjoyed this project and will do it again! A few thoughts I had regarding documenting this next time:
- Use the Nikon: All of my photos were taken with the camera on my Note 4. While it is easy to use, and the photo quality is still pretty good (12 megapixels), I'd like to use my Nikon next time for better shots and to use the timer remote.
- Document the "norm": I'd like to document a day that hubby has to work. Since he works an opposite schedule from me, our days usually aren't like this.
- Preview but don't criticize. One thing I do a lot of is criticizing my photos. I tried not to do that this time and didn't really look at the photos until the end of the day. I think for this type of project, you have to keep the imperfect photos because they really symbolize everyday life.
One thing I found funny is that even though I scrapbook using the Project Life, everyday system, the photos and details I captured for Day in the Life have never been scrapbooked before. It definitely made me re-think Project Life and whether I need to record my everyday memories all the time or just in select projects.
Speaking of select projects, I haven't quite decided how I will scrapbook this Day in the Life. I'm thinking I may want to create a mini album (of course) just for this Day in the Life, but we shall see.
Have you ever documented a Day in your Life?
