have fun & scrap on.

Sometimes I have mixed feelings about scrapbooking.  Some days I love it so much. LOVE documenting my memories and creating gifts to help others document theirs.  LOVE the pretty paper and products.  LOVE being a part of this world.  Then there's some days, where I just want to get rid of all of my stash.  Sell it all to the highest bidder and never look back.

I've kind of felt like that this week...AND last week also.  There's been so much happening in the scrapbooking world lately, it's all been a little hard to digest.  If you're not a scrapbooker, you might not understand.  I promise you my worries are not silly.  (Although I am a bit of an exaggerator...)

Sometimes, it takes some not so fun things happening to remind us of how good we got it, right?  In case you are totally confused at this point, I'll just put it like this.  Stores will close, large companies will take over small companies, options will be limited.  As long as we are taking the time to document our memories and tell our stories, does it really matter where we get the product from or who designs and sells it?  I have no doubt this hobby will live on as long as we keep doing what we're doing...with passion.

How are you feeling about all the recent changes in the scrapbooking world?  Please share your thoughts in the comments.  I'd love to hear them!

xoxo,
Kelster Jean

  1. I was shocked that 2 peas closed. I only shopped their once and realized the new items I like weren't there. I think AC buying spree is a good thing since the products would be at the big box stores faster. I just don't know what to think about Michaels going on the NASDAQ. With all these changes I think the scrapbooking industry will survive, Look at how many decades people have been preserving memories.

  2. Totally agree on all counts :) But it happens with other facets of stores too .... hardware stores closed because Home Depot and Lowes came along ... little retail stores crumble because Walmart came around ... so it's not just this industry :( Luckily, my babies actually love seeing themselves on my pages ... so for me that's a great reason to keep doing what I am doing :)

    1. EXACTLY! As long as we continue on with that, that is all that matters.

  3. I just posted a long, rambling manifesto of sorts on my blog which basically says the exact same thing you are saying here in this post. At the end of the day, scrapbooking isn't really about the products (though they're a fun part of it) … it's about documenting the things that matter and regardless of how many changes the retail industry has those of us who are passionate about memory keeping will adapt and find new, creative ways to showcase our stories :)
