snail mail.

Today I wanted to talk about snail mail.  I used to be a very avid pen-pal.  Once upon a time, I would write very long letters pouring my heart and soul out.  Well, not really.  But I did enjoy writing super long letters.  I had 7 pen pals at one point!  But soon, scrapbooking and my blog took priority in my life and my time to write dwindled.  Writing to pen pals became another "to do" on my list that I didn't have time for.  So, I took a break.

I'm happy to say, though, that I couldn't stay away forever.  I love snail mail! And for so many reasons: it is nice to get something happy in your mailbox that isn't bills, it always seems to arrive on a bad day, and you meet some AMAZING people with AMAZING interests and AMAZING stories.  What is better than that?

If you've never received snail mail, you need to give it a try!  I know the first complaint about sending something in the mail is the cost of postage.  Sometimes when people complain about that, I want to ask "Do you even know what the cost of postage IS?"  Most people don't know the answer.  49 cents.  It costs 49 cents for one stamp.  Yes, that may be a bit more than 5 years ago, but just remember how much we pay for our cell phone's A LOT more than 49 cents.  And honestly, everyone has 49 cents laying around their house somewhere.

I used to think snail mail was a dying art.  Remember when it was all over the news that they were cutting postal worker jobs and threatening to stop Saturday delivery?  Yeah, I was terrified!  But how can I say that when the hastag #penpals on Instagram has 122,583 posts?  It's so nice seeing people sending mail.

So today, or this week, or sometime soon, mail a card, send a letter, a post card, a gift.  Something, to someone.  And make their day!

PS: Did you know that Heather Sweet and I met as pen pals, then became besties?!  How AWESOME is that?!
