Just Two Midwest Girls Scrap Challenge: Sketch Challenge!
Friday, March 07, 2014
Hi dearies!! Heather and I are {finally} back with another Just Two Midwest Girls scrap challenge. (Thank you so much for your patience in waiting for our next challenge to be posted). Heather and I have been brainstorming with our challenges and we are excited to tell you that we have decided to switch our challenges to monthly challenges! This will give our readers more time to play along and also allows us to choose a bigger prize for the winner! The challenges will now be posted on the first Friday of each month. We're so excited for this change and hope you are too!
So first things first: our winner!!! The (randomly selected) winner of our last challenge, the color challenge, was Jen! Congrats Jen!!! Please email me your mailing address to kelsterjean@gmail.com and I will send you out your 6x6 Fancy Pants paper pad.

Now onto our challenge! For this challenge, Heather and I created layouts using the sketch above. I love sketches and they are my ultimate go-to for inspiration. I am constantly using sketches to scrap my stories. Sometimes you just need that little push of inspiration to get you going.
Here is the layout I created for the challenge. Since this is my first scrapbook project in weeks, and since the passing of my beloved Grandma, I just knew I wanted my first layout to be about her and/or my Grandpa. I used a past Citrus Twist kit for my layout. The colors were perfect for my photo (and I hardly ever use purple to scrapbook!) I switched up the layout of the sketch a little bit by moving the two 2.25 x 3 "photos" to the bottom of my layout. I moved my title to the left side and towards the bottom. (Although really this layout could have two titles). To me, the sketch called for more embellishing and layering, but I wanted to keep the focus on my story and photo.
I had decided on my title a while ago: Life is better with you. It was at the last minute that I decided to change it to Spanish. My Grandparents above are the Mexican side of my family and I thought it would be a wonderful tribute to have my "message" to them in Spanish. I also really love the photo above with my grandparents. When I look at this photo, I can feel the tenderness of their love for me, and love that my Grandpa's hand is on my arm, protecting me always. My journaling reflects that.
Now onto our next prize and how you can play along!
