Home for the Holidays mini album.

Hello dearies!  This morning, I wanted to share with you a mini album I created for my brother as a Christmas gift this year.  In case you don't know, my brother is in the Army.  For 6 months last year, he was stationed in Africa.  This was his first deployment and it was super hard having him out of the country.  However, I am extremely thankful that this is the second Christmas in a row that we were able to have him home with us.  I can't really complain about that at all!

Album: Heidi Swapp, patterned paper: The Paper Studio (music notes), sticker and washi tape: Dear Lizzy for AC ("Home for the Holidays" and flags), alphabet stickers: Lilybee Designs
Anywho, I used a Heidi Swapp chipboard album that I purchased from Michael's on Black Friday and all of the photos are from Christmas 2012.  I really wanted this to be an album my brother could take with him and look through if and when he gets redeployed.  I mainly used scraps and tidbits from my holiday stash for the album.

The cover and inside cover of the album were painted with red Prima ink.  I wanted something plain and simple and this definitely did the trick!  Page One is a photo my hubby took of my brother when he arrived at the airport.  My Mom was so proud of her shirt!  I painted the background with white acrylic paint.  I've been doing this on alot of my projects lately and used it throughout this album!  It just really helps tone down some of the colors and let the photos take center stage!

patterned paper, washi tape, die cut (24), alphabet stickers: Dear Lizzy for AC, flower, 'cheers', and 'a merry little christmas' die cuts: Evalicious
Page Two and Three: For Page Two, I wanted to try something different with washi, so I added strips to the corner.  The photo on the right is one of my favs of all time!  Getting a group shot with our big family is impossible!  All of my photos were printed on my HP Photosmart printer.

Page Four and Five: I really love this photo I took of my Aunt's Christmas tree lights.  My brother loved it also so I wanted to include it in the album.  Page Five shares some memories that really made us laugh.  My Mom always wraps Christmas gifts in food boxes.  No idea why, but we always joke that she gave us hamburgers or cereal when there's really a gift inside.  And my brother had a furry friend when he was serving himself dinner.  I used Picasa to create the black-and-white fade effect on the photo.

Page Six and Seven: Page Six I LOVE!  Sometimes it's fun to scrap the "mess-up" photos.  I usually delete the bad photos but in this case, I wanted to highlight them!  I've been loving the "messy thread" look so I used twine on this page to go from one photo to the next.  The right side, Page Seven, has our final product!  I'm happy I was able to finally use this Christmas 2012 tag!

Page Eight and Nine:  I probably have at least 50 photos similar to the one top left of me and my siblings.  We literally always take a photo like this.  I think it's our signature!  I really love that we used to fight like crazy when we were younger, but now that we are getting older, we really are there for each other.  I used Picasa again to create the Polaroid photos on the right.

Page Ten and Eleven: WARNING: Grab your tissues!  My Mom totally cried when she got to this page.  Even I tear up now just seeing this.  Page Ten just shares a few extra photos of our Christmas highlights.  I originally had done this page and really disliked it, so I stripped it and redid it.  Does that ever happen to you?  Page Eleven is definitely the tear-jerker.  I took this photo when we dropped my brother off at the airport to return to his base.  As hard as it was to scrap this photo, I really wanted to include this in the album.  And the message "Farewell for now."  Oh my heart!

Page Twelve: I realized after creating this entire album that my oldest sister, Kristy, was not in it.  She didn't get to come home for Christmas last year and wasn't in any of our photos.  I wanted her to be in the album somewhere, so I added this photo to the last page of the album.  Yes, that's me second from the left with the cheesy smile.  Can you tell I love the camera? :)  I included a message to my brother to go with this page.  As we get older and life takes us in different directions, we aren't always together for Christmas.  But as long as we remember each other in our hearts, we will be together.

Thanks so much for looking at my album!
 xoxo,
Kelster Jean
