And then I did something stupid...

Every couple months or so, I go through all of my accounts and "clean them up" a/k/a just see where my photos and content are located and try to get rid of things I don't need.  I am a worrier of having my photos and life public in tons of different locations, so I'm always trying to watch where I post things and where my photos and content goes.  Well, yesterday I thought it would be a fantastic idea to delete all of the photo albums in my Google + account.  After all, according to Google, the albums were just created as an "Auto Back-Up."  And I had the photos on my blog, some on my Facebook account, and some on my computer.  So why save them in yet another place?  So there they went.  All deleted and I felt refreshed!  Until I logged onto my Blogger account and noticed that none of my images were showing up...

After playing around for things for a little while, I realized that somehow my images from my blog were linked to my Google + albums.  Thanks to my friend Mandi for explaining to me why this is.  Apparently when you run out of room on your blog (via Blogger), you need extra storage, so the photos back-up somewhere (and in this case, for Blogger, it is Google).  So when you upload images to your blog, they are "hosted" by Google.

So anyways, that little image above is what you will see as all of the images on my blog after about the last seven posts or so....really sucks.  Alot....I guess that's what I get for always playing around with my blog and trying to 'make things better' when in the end, I just messed it all up.

I haven't decided if I will go back and reinsert the images into every. single. blog post I wrote.  That would be about 3 or 4 years worth.  And some posts will need to be edited and re-written.  And I don't even think I have all those images saved somewhere.  I may just call it a loss and delete everything before 2013.  We shall see.  I will keep you updated.....

xoxo,
Kelster Jean

If you read this whole post, I hope I taught at least one person the purpose of the Google + albums and why they should not be deleted.

  1. I'm here to say, I'm so sorry for your loss! That is so frustrating incredibly frustrating. I probably would have cried. But I seem to cry a lot more in the past few years.
I have been going back through old posts lately though and taking out ones that are just atrocious, leaving the okay ones and leaving the pictures the small sized I had them. Maybe just weed through a little, but don't get rid of all of them.

  2. So sorry! That really stinks!! Thanks for educating. Google doesn't do a good job of making that clear.
If I were you, I'd look back and see which posts are popular or special to you and reinsert those images if you can. Let the others go and keep moving forward. Best of luck :)

  3. Oh I am so sorry that happened to you. Some blogging lessons are really hard to learn. In fact, with the revamp of my blog, I know have pictures in two places. I need to go back and remedy that quickly before it gets out of hand. Why do we have to learn some lessons the hard way. Good luck to you getting things the way you want them going forward. And of course we'll stick around and see where this goes.
