Altered Gift Bag Using Stamping (Ten Things: Stamps)

(Before we begin with this week's post for Practical Scrappers, I must wish my dear baby sister Jenny a happiest of birthdays.  Love you Jenbabe!)

Today at Practical Scrappers, we are sharing ten ideas for stamping!  I decided to create an altered gift bag using stamping, and created a matching card to go with it.  This was for my mother-in-law for her birthday this past weekend.  Here is some close-ups and a photo of the bag before I altered it.

This bag is from a purchase when my mother-in-law and I went shopping recently.  This bag didn't really need much altering.  It was already kraft-colored to begin with.  My first idea was to stamp directly on the bag so I could keep the kraft color.  Unfortunately, since the bag did not lay flat, I decided not to do this, because the stamping would be uneven.

Instead, I painted the entire bag brown with acrylic paint and designed the front panel.  I stamped the scalloped circle stamp repeatedly on the green cardstock, letting some of the stamping go off the page.  After that dried, I added a paper doily and a (fussy cut) doily from patterned paper, also letting these go off the page.  Finally, I added a stamped banner and a stamped butterfly circle, followed by some bling.

And here's the card I created to match the gift bag.  I love matching, so having the card match the bag exactly is a win/win in my eyes!

Thanks for stopping by!  Check out Practical Scrappers today for more stamping ideas.

  3. Kelly, love how you made your own patterned paper! I'm with you on the matchy-matchy look: love it! You have definitely inspired me to not just think of papercrafting as cards, scrapbook layouts, and art journaling (still haven't done much of that, by the way), but as gift/package wrapping as well. I'm really excited to experiement with my own gift packaging and matching card!
