Me here again. I'm writing two posts today because I'm hosting two challenges at the Scrappin' Peeps forum. (And because I must be honest with myself and need to post these while I have the time or they will never get shared!) I just shared the first post, which was a card challenge, and now here is the layout challenge. For the layout challenge, I decided to take one of the challenges out of the 52 More Scrapbook Challenges book by Elizabeth Kartchner. (If you have a copy of the book, the challenge is #24). The challenge is to use products from a blind grab into your stash.
Can we say hello ultimate challenge? Because it was. I have a box full of scraps that I dug into first (and I will admit that there were some rejects), then I dug through a basket I have full of journaling pads and embellishments, and then finally blindly grabbed some stamps. Here is what I ended up with:
A pile of a bunch of different things. Some of them worked together and some of them didn't. As I said, I rejected a few things, but tried to use most of what was here. I ended up using the owl paper (which I turned around to use as the background of my patterned paper), a few of the patterned papers, the cardstock (yellow and orange), a journaling card, and a rub-on. I used this sketch for my layout. And here it is:
With the colors I picked out, I just had to do a masculine-type layout and my brother was the chosen winner. (Plus, I just got to Skype with him earlier that morning from overseas, so he was still on my mind.) My mom gave me an envelope full of photos from when we were younger, and these were included in there. (Thanks Mom!) I just love my brother's sweet face in the middle photo.
I'm pretty happy with how this layout turned out. I love the colors, love that I was able to use some of my stash (including my hot-dog-colored Mister Huey spray mist!) and love that I was able to scrapbook some photos of the younger days. My brother and I have a really special friendship, so I'm happy I was able to tell that story a bit.
If you have the chance, hop on over to the Scrappin' Peeps forum and play along (you may need to request a login and password). I'm giving away a copy of the 52 More Scrapbook challenges book as an extra-special prize!
