Baby Mine

Yesterday, I attended a baby shower for a very dear friend of mine, who will soon be welcoming her second daughter.  And, she also happens to be a fellow scrapbooker!  Since I just found out about her baby shower two weeks ago (I really need to start remembering to check my P.O. Box more often), I didn't have too much time to throw something together.  So, I decided a quick mini album and a matching card would be perfect for her.  (And she is a traditional scrapbooker, so what better way to welcome her to the world of minis than by giving her one?)

Baby Mine is the name of the collection I used from Fancy Pants Designs.  I must admit that I am truly in love with this collection.  (I used it for the first time when I was creating an album for dear friends who decided not to find out what they were having).  This makes it a little difficult for gift giving, but one of the things I loved about this collection was how neutral it can be.  (Okay, well I used mostly pink because I knew what she was having, but there is lots of greens, yellows, blues, pinks, and browns in this collection).  I also really love the title of the collection.  I can't wait until it is my own baby that I am creating these albums for.
I also wanted to share some quick tips if you're making an album without photos.  This can be quite difficult, as you don't know what photos they will use or what colors they will use.  This used to be hard for me, but is getting easier the more albums I make.  So, here's some quick tips for making a gift album:
  • Cut photo mats and add the measurements to the photo mat.  This will help the recipient of the gift fill the album(Especially if they are non-crafters).
  • Keep the embellishments to a minimum, as you don't want them to overpower the photos that will be added later.
  • If you're using a chipboard album, you may want to paint the top, bottom, and sides of the pages (see last photo) so the color of the chipboard doesn't show.  (And if you're OCD like me, those little details really matter).
  • If you're not using a binding machine, you may want to add eyelets to all of the holes of your album so the pages will turn easier.

PS: Here is a photo we took at the shower of me and the mother-to-be.

  1. Oh I can imagine Kelly Jean how totally perfect yor mini album will be when it is filled with photos by your friend. I love all the cute birds and butterflies and I also like that you were sparing with the embellishments so the photos will shine.

  2. Such a cute album for a very lucky baby! I've made a number of baby albums as gifts and I always include pages for pictures of/with siblings, parents etc. Agree, keep the accents simple so the pictures don't compete. I also like to use the same sketch for all the pages, turning it and moving the embellies around.
