Good Eats: Reese's Peanut Butter Rice Krispies Treats

Have I ever told you that I'm a terrible cook?  Seriously, no lies.  I love trying new recipes, but I have absolutely no common sense when it comes to cooking.  Alex does all of the cooking at home, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to try new things.  Since I've recently joined Pinterest, I've been drooling over tons and tons of new recipes.  I bounced across this recipe from Six Sisters' Stuff and absolutely had to try it for Sweetest Day/Halloween:

Reese's Peanut Butter Rice Krispies Treats
Source: Sweet Basil

1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Corn Syrup
1 1/3 Creamy Peanut Butter
4 1/4 Cup Rice Krispies
1 Pinch of Salt
4 Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, chopped (or 12 bite-sized Reese's Peanut Butter Cups)
1/2 cup Chocolate Chips

Directions (edited based on how I made them):
1) In a large sauce pan over medium heat, melt the sugar, corn syrup, and peanut butter until smooth and evenly combined.  Remove from heat.
2) Quickly add the salt and cereal and stir to combine thoroughly. Add the chocolate chips and stir again.
3) Wait about 1 minute and add the candy, quickly folding the mixture together so as to not smash up the candy.
4) Line a baking sheet with cling wrap and pour mixture onto sheet. Spread across baking sheet and press down until evenly smooth.

  • I decided to make squares (instead of balls) for my recipe.  They were a bit thinner, but still good.
  • It's best to prep everything in advance and have it out in measurements, because you can't let the mixture sit too long or it gets hard.  (Told you I had no common sense when it comes to cooking).
  • When doing Direction #1, definitely make sure the peanut butter is thoroughly smooth and evenly combined.  (I'm pretty sure that mine may not have been and that's why the taste was so peanut-buttery).
Definitely worth making and the hubby loved it so so much!  He is completely in love with peanut butter, so this was perfect for him!
