September is for Birthdays!!

Sunday, September 23, 2012

To me, September means birthdays.  Okay, it also means cooler weather and the start of pumpkins and gorgeous leaves and cinnamon and so much more.  But for me, it also means the birthdays of my dear sister and dad.  Creating a birthday card for Jenny is oh-so-easy.  When I think of her, I think of her most amazing feat (in my opinion, of course): baking!  My little sister is a cupcake if ever there was one.  She can bake amazingly!  So, this card was perfect for the sweet lil' sis in my life.

My dad, on the other hand, is a little bit tougher.  I've gone through so many ideas already of things that he loves: hockey, baseball, football (okay sports in general), music, coffee....I mean what else can I do?  And he's a guy.  No pink and frills and flowers, which is what I am so used to doing.  I know I can't be the only one out there that struggles with masculine cards, right?  Here's what I came up with:

One thing my dad loves and appreciates is vintage, and I thought this card was the perfect bit of vintage for his card.  He really loved it too (along with the pistachios and sugar-free candy he was gifted).
{Both cards were created using the Cakewalk Collection from October Afternoon.  I am so thrilled to finally be the proud owner of a lovely October Afternoon kit.  LOVE IT!  Other products used: Slice by Making Memories (die cut stars and tags); Unity stamps (all cupcake-themed); ribbon; cardstock}.
Alex and I met my dad, sister, and BFF Jessica at Chili's for lunch/dinner.  (Both Alex and Dad were more than happy to sit at the bar, where they could watch the football game).  Here's some photos from the day:

Hope you had a great weekend!  Did you celebrate any September birthdays?

  1. Love the cupcake card. Very cute! Yes, I also struggle with masculine cards. We have 3 September birthdays. All within the first 2 weeks. I posted them on my blog also.

  2. Love the uptake card! We had three birthdays in September, Mom' s , mine one week later, and then ten days later was my dear departed sister's birthday. So September means birthdays to me too!
